Pop Politics: Activisms at 33 Revolutions CA2M, Madrid, Spain Group show curated by Iván López Munuera November 30th, 2012 - April 21st, 2013 This exhibition explores the confluence of political action and Pop music through contemporary art practices. As the exhibition reveals, art-making is a means of addressing current cultural production from specific ideological stances expressed through personal empowerment practices, shared spaces, the viewer´s emancipated gaze, mass media, and an approach and reconnection of diverse information. For this show avaf will be displaying a grouping of 32 of their "Cyclops Trannies" drawings (2011) from a private collection against "antes vulgar agora fino" (2011) wallpaper. Festa Panorama Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo August 23, 2012 avaf was invited by the Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo to create the environment for the museum's 2012 gala party. This benefitparty was organized by MAM's group of young collectors Núcleo Contemporâneo and raised funds for the museum's bi-annual exhibition of Contemporary Brazilian art, Panorama da Arte Brasileira. The immersive installation included a projection-mapped façade on Oscar Niemeyer's OCA on Ibirapuera park (right next to the São Paulo Biennale building) featuring one of avaf's kaleidoscopic animations along with interior installations with wall panels and color fluorescent lights, balloons featuring different words in portuguese with the avaf initials, new masks, etc. |

Citizen M Hotel, London Bankside Permanent installation July 2012 Citizen M Hotel commissioned avaf to create a floor-to-ceiling mural in the lobby of their London hotel, just blocks away from the Tate Modern. The mural joins works by Hans ob de Beeck, Mark Titchner, Mario Testino, and Gavin Turk on view throughout the hotel. |

Visionare 62 : Rio July 2012 For Visionaire 62 Rio, the iconoclastic magazine features a series of 3D work by artists Maurizio Cattelan, Pierpaolo Ferrari, Marilyn Minter, Richard Phillips, Vik Muniz, avaf, and video artist Marco Brambilla that aim to reinterpret Rio de Janero. In the nineteenth century, stereoscopes provided a primary source of imagery and news from faraway lands and, here, Visionaire 62: Rio takes a decidedly analogue approach to achieve the same mesmerizing effect. |

Art21 + avaf Comboworks Art 21, Inc. New York, NY June 2012 In a special collaboration with the non-profit Art21, avaf invites the global creative community to participate in comboworks by submitting their own acronyms. A recurring motif throughout avaf's work has been the play on "avaf" as a multi-dimensional, ever-morphing acronym. Phrases using the four letters have been used as titles for works and exhibitions, even appearing in different combinations their email signatures. Participants input a four-word combination in the comboworks website, which outputs an image of the submitted phrase displayed in a custom "LED" typeface designed by the artists, allowing for each "combo" image to be shared across platforms. |

Art 21 Short: assume vivid astro focus: Masks Art 21, Inc. New York, NY May 30th, 2012 Filmed in Eli Sudbrack's Brooklyn studio, he discusses the motivations behind the collective's use of masks during public events and installations. Originally created to enjoy personal anonymity at openings, avaf has continued to use masks in their work as a way to create equality between itself and the audience and to encourage free personal expression. Masks have had an important role in avaf's numerous projects. |

Visiting Artist Lecture: Eli Sudbrack of avaf Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, Oregon April 12, 2012 6:30 - 8:00 pm As part of PNCA's Intermedia lecture and residency series, avaf's Eli Sudbrack was invited to lecture on multimedia art making and collaboration. As a vehicle to describe avaf's diverse practice and conceptual and cultural motivations, Eli walked the audience through avaf's recently published monograph in a book tour lecture/performance. While at PNCA, Eli also created a series of prints with the aid of students and professors in the print-making department. |
